Who’s in the need of a bit of hope right now? Did anyone call for a superhero? The self-proclaimed “Brazenly Divine Super Marvel” is here to the rescue! Combining whip-cracking, dance and comedy, with a sprinkling of 80’s pop, this superhero will take a crack at blowing your troubles away. She may be a bit of a mess, but at least she’s got some help from her faithful sidekick, Pogo: she’s trying to be sure, it’s gotta be soon, and she’s gotta be larger than life.
Sophie Ammann was commissioned by Festival Antigel to create a site-specific performance, combining whipcracking and dance, for the opening in September 2021 of the new eco-neighbourhood Belle-Terre in Geneva, Switzerland. As such, “Brazenly Divine Super Marvel” was first performed inside a building site.
Since then, it has been performed numerous times in Switzerland, including at the Théâtre de la Parfumerie for several Cabaret nights, for the Scène Danse of La Fête de la Musique, for La Fête du Théâtre 2022 and the event Genius Live Forever at the Salle de la Madeleine.
Internationally, the piece was also part of the official selection of the Gothenburg Fringe Festival and the Stockholm Fringe Festival - STOFF in Sweden, where it was nominated by STOFF for the Catania and Milano OFF Award 2023.
